What are tips for a better Oral presentation?

Preparation

  1. Recommended using light color letters (Yellow and White) on a dark background. It will make
    your presentation is easily readable.
  2. Advised to use 36pt or bigger for headings and 24pt or bigger for body text. Recommended
    fonts are Arial and Sans Serif.
  3. Better to avoid using different styles (eg: Italic fonts) of fonts that are difficult to read from the
    distance.
  4. Plan to cover 6-8 points/sentences per slide while keeping the number of words to a maximum
    of 8-10.
  5. It is recommended to use 10-12 sliders per presentation.
  6. Keep it simple, Illustrate major points. It is advised not to use every detail of what you have to
    say.
  7. Be sure your slides are free of grammatical and spelling errors.
  8. Once the presentation is prepared, proofread with care to content.

Presentation

  1. You will be given 12 minutes for presentation and 3 minutes for Q & A.
  2. Do not spend more than 1 minute per slide.
  3. Speak slowly, clearly and loudly.
  4. Practice, practice and practice with attention to the content and time; to deliver a better
    presentation.
  5. Each unique session will be awarded the session’s best presentation. Following criteria will
    be used to evaluate your presentation.

What are the technical requirements?

  1. Your presentation format should be either Microsoft PowerPoint 97-2007 or 2016 or higher.
    (ppt. or pptx.)
  2.  Adobe acrobat file (.pdf) will be accepted.
  3. You will be provided with an LCD projector, Screen and a Laser pointer.
  4. You cannot use your own laptop to do the presentation.
  5. It is advised to preview your presentation at least 2hrs prior to the start time of your session.

The organizing committee of the 6th International Food Security Conferences 2025, has arranged a speaker ready for your assistance. The room is equipped with computers and an AV technician for your assistance.

How should I get ready for the poster presentation session?

Size

  1. The size of the poster should not be larger than (height 120cm*width 80cm) in portrait format. Please ensure that your poster do not exceed this size
  2. Please leave a margin of 5cm around the poster.
  3. Add an image of the poster visual

Layout

  1. Matt finish is recommended than the glossy paper.
  2. It is advised to use columns than the rows; will be easier for the viewer to scan the poster.
  3. Recommended to use light colors eg: white space, light grey, light beige.
  4. Better to place the introduction at the upper left corner and conclusion at the lower right corner.
  5. Remember try to create a strong visual but, avoid making the poster look crowded. It is important to provide some indication of the flow of the poster (top to bottom, left to right).

Context

  1. Introduction and conclusion is very important, should be very clear and concise.
  2. The title should be the same as in the submitted abstract.
  3. Make sure your poster can be read from a normal distance. It is recommended to use the 85pt for the title, 36pt for the subheadings and 25pt for the body image.
  4. Recommended to use the line spacing 1.25-1.5
  5. Numbered or bulleted points are recommend to use to convey a series of points.
  6. Illustrations, tables, figures, photographs, and diagrams need to have unique identification numbers and legends. In the text, use the numbers to refer to specific graphics or pictures. Illustrations, tables, figures, photographs, and diagrams should be able to view from distance.
  7. Try to minimize the narrative. Advised not to use the complex details of methods of results.
  8. Be sure your slides are free of grammatical and spelling errors.
  9. Your poster should be clear, readable and should not look cluttered.
  10. Your poster is the visual presentation of your research; always try to create a visually attractive poster.

Session guidelines

  1. Posters should be printed and should be handed over to the registration desk prior to the lunch break of the first day (4th of July 2024) of the SilverAge 2024
  2. Poster session will be allocated 30 minutes 60 minutes time depending on the number of presentations
  3. Poster presenter should be stand by their poster for at least the first half of the session. This will allow you to engage with viewers to answer their questions
  4. When you are not there, leave a note saying when you plan to return. You may also want to provide a mobile phone number or business cards so another delegate can arrange to meet you at a specific time.
  5. At the end of the SilverAge 2024 the best poster presentation award will be given to the most outstanding presentation of all. Following criteria will be used to evaluate the poster presentations.
