| The Journey to Publication: Crafting Strong Manuscripts and Navigating Reviewer Comments

Publishing in reputable academic journals is a critical milestone for researchers, academics, and professionals seeking to disseminate their work and contribute meaningfully to their fields. However, many promising manuscripts face rejection or repeated revision due to challenges related to manuscript quality, journal selection, and effectively addressing reviewer feedback. This workshop is designed to provide practical, step-by-step guidance on navigating the full publication process—from preparing a high-quality manuscript to successfully responding to reviewer comments and making effective revisions.

The first session of the workshop will be delivered by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Christopher Teh Boon Sung from the Department of Land Management, Faculty of Agriculture, University Putra Malaysia. His session, “Preparing a High-Quality Manuscript (Combined with Selecting the Most Suitable Journal)”, will focus on the essential components of a strong scholarly manuscript. Participants will gain insights into structuring a clear and coherent paper, developing strong research arguments, and ensuring methodological rigor. The session will also address common writing pitfalls, ethical considerations, and strategies for improving clarity, originality, and academic impact. In addition, Dr. Teh will guide participants on how to identify and select the most appropriate journals for their research, considering factors such as journal scope, impact, indexing, and audience relevance. This session will be particularly valuable for early-career researchers and postgraduate students who are preparing their first submissions, as well as experienced academics aiming to enhance their publication success.

The second session will be conducted by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tan Geok Hun from the Department of Land Management, Faculty of Agriculture, University Putra Malaysia. Her session, “Responding to Reviewer Comments and Making Effective Revisions”, will focus on one of the most critical yet often challenging stages of the publication process. Participants will learn how to interpret reviewer comments constructively, respond professionally and systematically, and prepare clear response-to-reviewer documents. The session will also cover best practices for revising manuscripts based on feedback, managing conflicting reviewer suggestions, and communicating revisions effectively to editors. Through practical examples and real-world scenarios, participants will develop confidence in handling revisions and increasing the likelihood of manuscript acceptance.

Together, these two sessions provide a comprehensive overview of the academic publishing journey—from submission to acceptance. The workshop emphasizes practical skills, real-world strategies, and actionable guidance that participants can immediately apply to their own research work. It is particularly suited for postgraduate students, early-career researchers, academics, and professionals who aim to publish in high-quality journals and enhance the visibility and impact of their research.
